2025-07-28 The FreeBSD project clarifies its stance on gen-ai powered contributions

I stumbled across the following when browsing the FreeBSD Bugzilla news. It's good to know the perspective of the project as no statement regarding things created by llm / (gen)ai / statistically-generated-output leaves things in an (uncomfortably large) gray zone.

As discussed at BSDCan, the FreeBSD Project is going to disallow contributions created by using AI, pending a clearer legal framework. Use the new Resolution "No AI Content" to close such reports.

For the record, I did (and do) not have any plans to use these tools for any direct contributions I plan to submit to the project (that seems utterly slimey anyways). I hope to see more projects clarify this in their contribution guidelines. I imagine new projects that are getting started from now on that already use gen-ai tools have already made their stance.
